Effect of Column Flexural Stiffnesses on the Seismic Performance of Stiffened Steel Plate Shear Walls

Two types of lateral resistance structural systems, namely unstiffened steel plate shear walls (USPSWs) and stiffened (SSPSWs), are typically used in high-rise structures. Numerous experimental numerical studies have been conducted on the performance SSPSWs. However, few to investigate effect column flexural stiffness SSPSW systems. In this study, an analysis investigation SSPSWs with variable stiffnesses was performed. The hysteretic performance, secant reduction energy dissipation four were investigated. USPSWs did not negatively influence overall drift ratios up 2.5%. Moreover, infill plates could achieve ultimate strengths similar theoretical values despite satisfying minimum requirements from CSA S16-09 PEER/ATC72-1, which indicated that these be conservative.
